USPA NEWS - Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.- As part of her working tour of the lake region, Omega Vázquez, Coordinator of the Ministry of Economy in Michoacán, visited the Magical Town of Pátzcuaro, where she met with cooperative members, community leaders, and merchants from Janitzio, Erongaricuaro, Yunuén Island, Tzintzuntzan, and the Pátzcuaro pier.

During the meeting convened by the region's leaders, the official highlighted the importance of building a solidarity-based economy with a community focus, as outlined in PLAN Mexico. Within this framework, important agreements were reached to develop productive projects to form cooperatives led by Indigenous women, with the goal of adding value to agricultural products, especially criollo corn, a symbol of Purépecha identity and culture.
“We must continue to support an economy that recognizes women's work, values ??what our communities produce, and generates well-being at the local level,” she stated.

The meeting was attended by the mayor of Pátzcuaro, Julio Arreola, whom the Coordinator thanked for his hospitality and willingness to work together for the benefit of the communities.

These actions are part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen productive tourism, promote community organization, and reactivate the economy of the indigenous peoples who live on the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro.
